MNM (Minds Navigating Meaning) is a complimentary Bible quiz and Bible reading experience. This notice explains what personal information we keep, why we keep it, where it is stored, and the rights you have over it. We wrote it with Zimbabwe's Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07] in mind, and it applies wherever you play from.
Who is responsible
MNM is created and run by Robin T Maturu in Zimbabwe, who is the data controller for MNM. You can reach us about anything on this page at [email protected]. The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) is the Data Protection Authority that oversees how we handle your information.
What we keep
- Sign-in identity. Your email address and an account ID from Firebase Authentication (Google sign-in or email and password). Passwords are handled by Firebase and never reach MNM.
- Profile. The display name, country, city and church you give us, your avatar colour and your light or dark theme choice. If you add a church that isn't on our list yet, we note that you suggested it so an admin can review it.
- Play. The games you join, your scores, which questions you answered, whether you were right and how quickly you answered. We use this for leaderboards, badges and your profile.
- Groups. The friend groups and church groups you create or join.
- WhatsApp number (optional). Only if you add one in Profile.
- Notifications (optional). If you switch on notifications, the push subscription your browser gives us so we can send them, a record of the notifications we send you and whether you opened them, and your weekly leaderboard positions so we can tell you when someone passes you. Choose what you get, or turn them off, in Profile.
- Email choices. Whether you asked for reminder emails or the weekly progress email, and when we sent your welcome email.
- Reports. If you report a question or a player, what you reported and why.
- Simple usage counts. First-party events such as which pages are opened, chapters read, games started and app installs, linked to your account so features like reading badges work. We don't use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
- Security records. A log of admin actions and account deletions, so we can keep the community safe and show that requests were carried out.
We don't collect your phone contacts, your location from your device, or payment details. MNM is complimentary.
Why we use it
- To run the service you asked for: signing you in, running games, keeping scores, leaderboards and badges.
- With your consent, which you give when you claim your place: for optional details such as your church, city and WhatsApp number, and for reminders.
- For our legitimate interest in keeping MNM safe, fair and working well: stopping cheating and abuse, fixing wrong questions, and understanding which features are used.
- Where the law requires it, for example responding to POTRAZ or another lawful request.
We don't sell your information, and we don't use it to build advertising profiles.
Emails we send
- One welcome email when you claim your place.
- Quiz-night reminders and a weekly progress email, only if you ask for them. Every one has a link to stop them, and you can switch them off in Profile.
Emails come from [email protected] and are delivered for us by Mailjet, an email delivery service. We give Mailjet only your email address, your display name and the email itself. Replies reach the MNM team. We don't send marketing for other companies.
Who can see what
- Other players see your display name, avatar, city, church (if you add one) and scores on leaderboards and in rooms.
- MNM admins can see account details to run and protect the service. Admin actions are recorded in an audit log.
- Partners behind partner moments never receive your personal details. We only count how many times each partner moment is shown and tapped, in total.
Where your information is stored
Your MNM profile, games and answers are kept in our own private, secured database, hosted with an established cloud provider outside Zimbabwe. Sign-in is handled by Google's Firebase Authentication, which may also store your sign-in identity outside Zimbabwe. Emails are delivered by Mailjet, which processes your email address in the European Union. Bible text is fetched from the Free Use Bible API; we don't send it your personal details.
This means your information is transferred outside Zimbabwe. We only use providers that apply recognised security and data protection safeguards, we send them only what each one needs, and by claiming your place you agree to these transfers. You can ask us for more detail about where your information is held by emailing us.
How we protect it
- All connections to MNM are encrypted (HTTPS).
- Your session is kept in a signed, HTTP-only cookie that scripts on the page can't read.
- The database isn't reachable from the internet; only the MNM app can talk to it.
- Admin access is limited to named people, and their actions are logged.
If a breach ever puts your information at risk, we will notify POTRAZ within 24 hours of finding out, as the Act requires, and we will tell you without delay when the breach is likely to affect you, with what happened and what you can do.
How long we keep it
- Your profile, games and answers: while your account is open.
- When you delete your account: your profile, scores, answers, group memberships, reminders and usage events are removed from the live database straight away. Any backup copies are overwritten on their normal cycle.
- Reports you filed stay, without your name, so wrong questions can still be fixed.
- The audit record that an account was deleted is kept, without your email address, so we can show the request was carried out.
Your rights
Under the Cyber and Data Protection Act you have the right to:
- Know and access what we hold about you. Use Download my data in Profile at any time, or email us.
- Correct anything that is wrong. Edit your name, country, city, church and WhatsApp number in Profile.
- Delete your information. Use Delete my account in Profile.
- Object to how we use your information, or withdraw a consent you gave, such as reminders or optional profile details.
- Complain to POTRAZ, the Data Protection Authority, if you think we have handled your information wrongly. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first, so please email us too.
We reply to privacy requests within 30 days.
Cookies and storage on your device
One essential cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. Your theme and Bible translation choices are remembered on your device only. MNM works offline for some pages using your browser's storage. We don't use advertising cookies.
Children
MNM is made for families and churches. Under the Act, a child is anyone under 18, and a parent or guardian acts for them. If you are under 18, please play with your parent's or guardian's agreement. A parent or guardian can ask us to see, correct or delete their child's information by emailing us. If we learn that a child has joined without that agreement, we will delete the account.
Changes
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and its date. For important changes we'll tell you in the app before they apply.
